A Word Fitly Spoken

My mom taught me well the lessons in communication.

Here a couple things she told me.

1. Proverbs 25:11 "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."

The same verse in The Message version. "The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry, And a wise friend's timely reprimand is like a gold ring slipped on your finger."

2. Never write anything down that you are not ok with everyone reading.

3. Matthew 12:36 "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken." It doesn't say for every swear word. Hmmm.

This morning I continued reading in Ephesians.

Ephesians 6:19 "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Final Greetings Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you. Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

What I took from verse 19 this morning was that I am not perfect. I make communication mistakes. God is gracious and loving and forgiving as we come to Him and ask Him.

The other thing that I took is that Paul didn't share everything. He said that. He says he sent Tychicus to share.

Communication today is changing. There is lots of non verbal communication. Email, Facebook, Twitter, Texting. It's fast it's easy. As we communicate let's keep these principles in mind and not forget the value of a face to face visit or verbal communication.

Bless you.

Alanne.

  1. I like this. I have learned much more this week on what and how to say at certain times.
I have been praying "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight." (I think it's Psalm 139. Let me know if I'm wrong.)
Have a blessed weekend, my friend. we are off camping tomorrow.
    ;)
